Work from Home

Things you Need to Consider Before Sending your Employees to Work from Home

Come and join our discussion this week – Clive has thirty minutes on one of the most useful tools he uses for remote working and then time for any questions about your issues and concerns.

From Clive:

I was asked to write (another) blog about the issues of working from home – that is not a problem, as Diana (the MD) and I took the decision in 2007 to move out of an office, which was under-utilised and set up our team as remote workers. Engineers back then spent a lot of their time onsite helping clients so they rarely had time to come to the office anyway and with school aged children Diana preferred to work from home so it worked out for everyone. My big consideration was enabling the secure sharing of resources across the group, which at the time meant using our own server – with the associated expense and “single point of failure” issues. When cloud computing and especially hosted Exchange and Office 365 came along we were early adopters of these technologies and over the years I think we have found the best balance between flexibility and convenience as opposed to privacy and security.

So when the current crisis came along we found ourselves in a good place to help others “work from home” securely.

So what have I got to say that is new today, not much personally, but in my research I found that one of my regular sources of information about cybersecurity has an excellent article:

Now you have read the article, I have some questions:

  • By moving your business to your people’s homes have you exposed it to more risks?
  • Have you taken steps to review what systems and set ups your people are using?
  • IoT and domestic router/modems – is your company safe when your business is running through them?

If you cannot answer or solve these points then our engineers (by remote) can sort them out for you. Working from home is not only about systems but unfortunately there is paperwork. We can help you complete a simple risk assessment of home working which will help you develop and manage the issues over the coming weeks.
