COVID-19 has changed the way we work – We have to change the way we look after business data

The pandemic has changed the way we run our businesses. Online working from home means a lot more cyber-attack opportunities for the bad guys.

Here is how you can protect yourself:

Millions of businesses have been made to operate from home, and in turn the number of us participating in videoconferencing, online communications or learning has increased rapidly.

It seems that businesses are putting more effort into finding out about safe ways of holding online meetings with people within and outside of the organisation. But that’s not all they should be concerned about!

To stay safe we have to be able to do frequent security updates, change default Wi-Fi passwords, or segment home networks. That’s not everything though, on the tasks list should also be: enabling two-factor authentication, adding VPN on phones, using strong passwords for all online accounts and in addition having in place the appropriate policies and procedures for working from home.

The term “business as usual” no longer exists. This is a new era for businesses and remote working is on the rise! Data is the lifeblood of your business, it’s everything and we all have to be vigilant to keep it safe!

As the Coronavirus situation is a first-time experience for everyone we want to reassure you that we remain committed to maintaining our business operations to provide advice, assistance or support when needed.

We have also put together a series of online seminars nicknamed “Free Fridays” to provide vital help and guidance to businesses and their staff working from home. This Friday we are talking about the importance of policies and procedures for your remote workforce because we all have to be extra alert when it comes to data safety! You should email me kamila@octagontech.com if you want to join the 11 o’clock session this week.
