For me working from home means that my mind is occupied by work “almost” 24/7 – not in an unhealthy way, don’t get me wrong, I like what I do – but I have a family and friends too! Some people travel to work daily, they have a long way to get to their office and I only have to go downstairs as I mostly work from my living room. No time wasted for travel then and I can use this time for more creative stuff!
Sometimes working from home means working late hours or over the weekend when things need to be done, so having my phone “in hand” comes handy. I expect it to ring anytime. I have my phone handy at night too. Does that sound bad? Maybe, but I don’t care, my best ideas come at night. Why? I don’t know, I suppose it is to do with the fact that no one and nothing is disturbing my thinking process. Crazy? Not really! Scientists say it is quite common! So, I would rather write down those precious and creative ideas or solutions than forget them all before morning comes.
So I bet you are now asking yourself: I wonder what app she uses on her phone?
I’m sure you have heard about OneNote. It’s the best Microsoft software right? It works well with my android phone and it syncs with my laptop, so when I wake up, sit at my desk and open my laptop my notes are already there. How cool is that? Then I can revisit my thoughts, add to them, correct them, or even delete them if I notice that I was drifting away too much. (That happens too!) What is most important is that OneNote keeps my notes secret because individual tabs in a notebook can be encrypted with a password so no one can ever steal them from me! They are precious, they are mine!
Of course, I use OneNote for my day-to-day work stuff too. The tool allows me to keep my photos, which I can then use for social media during my working day. It stores my handwritten notes including video and audio files from the networking meetings I attend during the week and most importantly it allows me to share things with the Octagon team securely. Fantastic or what? Surely nothing can beat this killer app.
