So you want cheap Cyber Security?

I am sorry – once you look at the risk cyber threats pose to your business, then cheap does not seem a good idea. What you need are solutions that are proportional to your particular circumstances and risk and are also good value for the money you spend on them.

Somewhere here, as you would expect, I will be telling you about the solutions we offer that meet these criteria, but before we get there:

Cyber security is not a box ticking, certificate gathering, annual inspection, navel gazing task. It is an active full participation job across your whole organisation. If you are not onboard with that idea then please follow this link – the jokes are really great – www.dilbert.com.

At Octagon we take this seriously – I have recently graduated with an MSc in Cyber Security and I have filtered this training down to our team to ensure that we and our clients are up to date with the latest trends. But the studying has not stopped – I regularly attend academic and industry events to keep myself up to date.

Staff training

Possibly the strongest weapon in your cyber defence arsenal (nice strong military metaphor there!). Not all threats are technical – many rely on a human element. If everyone is threat aware and knows what to do if an incident – whatever it is – occurs, then your organisation is in a good position to cope. I now do this training via Teams and it is fully interactive, with participants encouraged to interrupt when they do not understand, as training is only effective when it is shared not dictated. Teams does mean that the client gets a recording which is invaluable for those that could not attend the live session and for new starters – so everyone understands the key facts.

Technical stuff

We have a variety of software and technical solutions… but those are going to be the subjects of further articles from me and the team…
