Office Move and Network Infrastructure Project

We have been steadily working on the network infrastructure project in Horncastle all this week. This photo shows Martin tagging the cables the electrician installed, before fitting them into the cabinet.

Octagon has been working closely with the client from the early days of this design and build project to ensure that the client’s current computer system (which we support) can be moved into the new office. Here are some of the project elements:

  • Location and specification of the server/comms room
  • Location and specification of the network sockets
  • Managing the sourcing and supply of equipment
  • Managing the installation of the new Internet connection and its impact on business services
  • Fitting of network sockets
  • Fitting of patch panels
  • Fixed wire testing
  • Keeping the client informed of the project status, indicating problem areas and assisting with keeping the move on schedule
  • Managing the move of all “technical” equipment
  • Managing and checking that a full backup of the server has completed before moving it
  • Carrying out the move and installation of the server and computer system
  • Liaising with the phone system and printer companies to assist with their parts of the move
  • Assisting with the first day in the new office
  • A key role we have taken on is to ensure business continuity and minimum down time during the actual move days. It is down to us that on Monday morning there is a working computer, with access to email, company data and a phone in the new reception – and if for some reason beyond our control this cannot happen, to have a standby plan to put into operation and keep the company working.

If you need help with an office move – large or small – we have the experience to help you (and your in house IT) complete the job.
