One of the jobs I am doing whilst I am in Essex is upgrading an old XP laptop to Lubuntu. This laptop belongs to a friend of mine and it had sat on the shelf in his office for a couple of years, the only reason he had stopped using it was that it had “got a bit slow”.
The laptop is a small machine, ideal for carrying around and he wants it to take away on holiday so he can access the company online data base and email, via a web browser and to be able to view and possibly update documents and spread sheets. All of which Lubuntu will do for him.
The change of operating system has also fixed the “going a bit slow” issue as it is very light on system resources.
Drivers for the WiFi card and his HP printer were also installed as part of the package. The only thing he has to do now to make this a really useful portable laptop is get a new battery from eBay.
