Server upgrade – Minimal disruption to the client

Having looked at Martin’s post from yesterday it looks like the theme of the week will be helping our clients, with the least amount of disruption to their businesses.

The next two weekends are busy for Octagon as we upgrade a client’s network, server and software.

A variety of our clients are using cloud services rather than the traditional on site hardware/software solution but that does not suit everybody, so Octagon Technology still provides and supports the client’s own equipment.

Today’s part of the project is a one person job, so I am on site getting things ready for what will follow during the coming week and next weekend. Next weekend we have four Octagon staff coming in as we want to complete the job over the one weekend, so reducing the disruption for the client to a minimum.

The equipment I am using for the temporary network is the kit we keep ready as part of Octagon’s well tested “Disaster Recovery” procedures. Not that we have had to recovery many servers but we regularly practice and review disaster plans on client sites, so when the day comes that we have to do it for real we are ready. It also makes regular jobs like this less stressful for both us and the client, as we know we have a reliable backup before we start and I did not have to go hunting for the kit in our store before setting off this morning.
