Team up with your friends on National Make a Friend Day this Thursday

It soon will be Valentine’s Day and I’m sure you have already made your plans to celebrate this special day with your loved ones but before this remember National Make a Friend Day, which can be the best way to celebrate the friends that you already have or to make new ones.

Friends are those rare people who really make a difference in our life. They have those special abilities of listening to our endless complaints and sitting through our daily moan sessions. They can bring light to our darkest days and sometimes they can embarrass us in front of a crowd in the middle of a shopping mall just because they think it’s a good laugh – but you easily let go of those “take the mickey” times (sometimes too easily)! You enjoy spending time with them so much, coffee tastes better with them, wine is sweeter, movies more interesting and pizzas tastier. Life would be boring without friends!

Friends can also make you learn new things, point out your mistakes and provide a fresh perspective, support and love. A real friend can be your biggest strength so make sure you celebrate this special day and let them know how much you value them in your life. I know that’s easier said than done due to the pandemic as we’re not allowed face-to-face meetings so we need to be more creative this year.

So what can you do? Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Use social media. It’s time to get posting!
  2. Order a box of your favourite personalised cookies and have them delivered right to your friend’s door.
  3. If your friend enjoys cooking then post a cookery book – do it today to make sure it is there with your friend on time! Once the pandemic is over you can get back together for a cooking session with a glass of wine or maybe a bottle – you waited so long to see each other after all.
  4. Use Teams to have a virtual coffee meeting with your special friend. Make a little appointment with your friend and let them know that it is very important to you to celebrate this special day with them.

How do you get on Teams with your friend?

You don’t need a Microsoft 365 subscription to use Teams with a personal Microsoft account. Teams is currently free as a mobile, desktop and web app for personal use.

You will need to have Microsoft Teams installed on a device – available from any of the app stores. Install it and log in using an email address you have registered as a Microsoft account.

This is easy if you have Microsoft 365 (any version) as it will be the email address associated with that – Teams installs as part of Office 365 for Business.

If you do not have Office 365, but you have a Windows laptop and you have logged into that using an email address – that is an email address associated with Microsoft, so use that.

If you have an Outlook.com, Hotmail or Live email address use that and if you are still having problems then please let me know, I will be happy to help. I know how important it is to celebrate this special day with your friends. My friends and I are doing this too and we will have doughnuts with a virtual cup of tea as it is Fat Thursday (Paczki) on that day too!
