Clive's Cyber News

Clive’s weekly Cyber Security roundup – 13 May 2022

I have published several posts this week talking about the lowering cost and skill sets needed to run a successful cyber attack – such as infecting your systems with ransomware. This is because the well resourced cyber criminal gangs are renting their malware and other resources to less well resourced gangs. Therefore adopting the model of the “gig economy” and “…as a service” models, and increasing the threat and risk to all of us.

Ransomware how it spreads and what you can do about it

The Russia Ukraine conflict is still in the news – and I have updated the pinned advice post this week.

Advice from the National Cyber Security Centre and the UK Government – actions to take when the cybersecurity risk is high (Russia Ukraine Conflict) – UPDATED 11 May 2022

Tuesday was Microsoft’s patch Tuesday – so check that you and all your team have run the updates and patches that were issued. Not sure how you are going to do that across all the computers and servers you are responsible for – then have a look here. Simply relying on “automatic updates” is not good enough, if you want the best cyber security out there.

I have also featured an article from the Octagon blog this week. Martin’s post about a phishing text message he got this week, trying to worry him into clicking on a malicious link.

Omicron Scam

My contribution, this week, to the Octagon blog is featured in today’s “Because It’s Friday” post. The “Geek Dad” Father’s Day blog for Octagon is coming soon…

There it is for this week. Have a good weekend and remember if you have an interest in privacy and cyber security technology and want something more in depth or lighter to read over the weekend, you could have a look at the “weekend read” articles I have published.
