So your Dad is a geek… Presents for a Geek Dad

First let’s start with an apology – due to circumstances I forgot to write our Geeky Mother’s Day Present Blog – sorry. But I will be making up for it in the next few weeks, because Diana and Kamila have told me to…

So here is my round up of presents for Father’s Day that are not CDs of 1980’s driving songs – as I pointed out to Jeremy neither of my cars now have CD players in them.

A subscription to Apple Music or Spotify

So, no CD player – not a problem – buy a subscription to an online music service and your Dad can play all the J Geils Band or Belinda Carlisle he wants when you are not in the car. (Other online music streaming services are available – google it – other online search engines are available – bing it.)

Although the shops are now open – online is still one of the best places for geeky presents and even though it will add to Jeff Bezos’ wealth, I am mainly looking at Amazon because you need these presents delivered before Sunday. (No affiliate links).

How to by Randall Munroe

I included one of Randall’s books on last year’s list and here is another. They are just great fun – if a little obscure. Sometimes you have to reach for the internet to explain what is funny about them. Check out xkcd.com.

You can get a dead tree version of the book – or the more geeky audiobook or Kindle versions – the latter two are guaranteed to be here for Sunday.

Marvel Studios Character Encyclopedia

Another book – but a must for anyone who is into the Marvel Movies. All the characters explained in the DK books way.

Again, Kindle and paper versions are available – but for this get the version Tony Stark would buy.

Star Trek Tee Shirt

Iconic reactions from the original Star Trek series – explained for the 21st century – how geeky is that? Needs ordering quickly.

Mous Limitless Smartphone Cases

I have one, Diana has one, our kids have them. Now I have not tested mine in the way they show in their YouTube advert:

Mous on YouTube

However they do seem to give lots of protection – they also come with a toughened glass screen protector.

Not cheap, but neither was my iPhone.

Link to Mous website – but you may get it quicker via their Amazon pages.

Marvel Comics: 80th Anniversary Edition

I have a digital copy of this – it includes the reprint of the comic from 1939, other versions and some history on how Marvel got started.

Print and digital versions available.

ZX Spectrum Keyboard Mug

A friend of mine, who teaches IT in a school, has a ZX Spectrum messenger bag that he uses for carrying his tablet, chargers, cables, books and other stuff. I could not find that bag on Amazon, the best I could find was this mug.

Travel Cable Organiser

Now this is quite sensible – every geek has lots of cables, chargers, USB drives etc and this just keeps them all together – I am sure it works for other people as well. (Try it with this type of charger – folding plug – I have two of them for travelling.)

I use this organiser – Knomad.

Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker

Something for the outdoor geek – a waterproof speaker. I have a bluetooth speaker which is excellent for when I want to listen to music or an audiobook when away or when there is no one else at home – I also use it on my laptop when I need more volume. Mine is not waterproof – I wish it was.

However, Octagon Technology Ltd in no way endorses dropping your speaker into water as they show in their advert. Do that at your own – or your Dad’s – risk!

Bostionye 8 in 1 Phone Camera Lens Kit

This looks like fun if your Dad takes a lot of photos with their smartphone.

A Memory Stick for all your devices

This will give you extra storage for both Apple and Android smartphones and tablets. Easily back-up your photos and videos whilst you’re away on holiday, freeing up space for more of everything on your device.

So there are ten of my ideas, eleven with the music subscription and now twelve:

Get an Amazon electronic gift card and send him this list and let him choose. (Other electronic gift cards are available – google it – other online… you get the idea.)

Hope this helps – hope your Dad has a great day.

PS a reminder for my children – check your phones for the message I sent with the link to my Wish List.
