So your Mum is a geek!

I have regularly written geek present lists for Christmas and Father’s Day, but I have been amiss when it comes to Mother’s Day – the last one was back in 2019:

Embed A Geek Mother’s Day – Ten presents for the Geek in your Mum – Octagon Technology

That is going to be fixed now with a selection of gifts for March 19th – that is Mother’s Day in case you did not know – for those Mothers who like Doctor Who (insert cult series of your own choice here), comics, computer games, tech, science etc. etc. etc..

The great thing with these lists is that previous ones can still provide inspiration and that they are “sexless” (mostly), so if you need a “not Mother’s Day” or “not Father’s Day” present for a geek brother or geek aunt, my lists can help.

Let’s get on with the shopping…

p.s. No affiliate links here it is just for fun.

Problem Solved

I am going to solve your Mother’s Day gift problem and your Mum will be able to solve her problems with this mug.

If you want to personalise it you had better get your order in quickly. Dishwasher safe which is important.

I just like binary!

If your Mum likes binary then this is the present you need.

Binary t-shirt

Binary Cotton T-Shirt

If binary is not her thing, then maybe it is chemistry…

Fe T-shirt

Irony Cotton T-Shirt

This shirt may also help for those chemical symbol questions on Only Connect.

The Only Connect Quiz Book

Did you see what I did then? A professional segue into the next gift idea. We have a copy of this book and it is good fun – you can run your own Only Connect quizzes at home.

Only Connect Quiz Book

The nice thing is that if your Mum likes this gift, there is an Only Connect Quiz Book Volume 2, which you can get her for her birthday, Christmas or next Mother’s Day.

Only Connect: The Official Quiz Book

Something that is good for the environment.

In my Christmas list I included a fold away/pocket knife, fork and spoon set – to save using single use plastic cutlery when you are out and about.

McDonald’s have replaced their plastic cutlery with some type of cardboard cutlery – last week, I tried to cut my pancakes with them, the knife was useless for cutting and the fork folded up. I did not have any other cutlery with me, so whilst sitting at the table I ordered myself this fold away cutlery set. When Diana saw them, she suggested they make the Mother’s Day Present list.

This set comes with a carry bag and a collapsible mug. Check out the Christmas article for the other set I suggested.

Also good for the adventurous Mum!

Portable Camping Folding Cutlery Set

Everyone has cables

There is no getting away from it, when we go out to work, away on holiday or leave home for any reason for any length of time we all need cables, chargers and other bits of tech gear – well geeks do! Here is a compact way of keeping all those things under control.

equipment cases

This gift is a set of three different sized cases, that can be used for organising and protecting a variety of equipment. I included this set in  the gift list as unlike many other tech-gear organisers these can easily be used for non-tech stuff as well. My camping drip coffee maker, ground coffee, folding cutlery etc., will be going in the small case for my next hotel stay.

3 x Multi-function Accessory Storage Cases

This is not a handbag…

This bag made the list because you can plug it in. It has a fitted USB port that your Mum can connect a power bank to and then conveniently charge her stuff on the go.

Star Trek Mugs

To make this gift work you will need to find some way to slip into a conversation with your Mum, “who or what is your favourite Star Trek Character”? Then your Mother’s Day shopping is done.

Star Trek mugs

This shop has ceramic character mugs from across cult TV and movies, including Stranger Things, Star Trek, Back To The Future, Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters etc..

Another “good for the planet” gift

Here is Darth Vader’s lightsabre.

No more single use plastic bottles of water – fill up on the go and save the planet and money.

Darth Vader Lightsabre Metal Water Bottle

Power Banks

I had to include a power bank in this list – your Mum will need one for the bag above. The only issue with recommending power banks is that many that are listed on eBay and some that are listed on Amazon fall short of the advertised capacity. I have bought these power banks and the capacity is true and they work well – one of these is my everyday carry power bank.

Power Banks

Best thing is you get two.

The final paragraph…

There we go ten gifts. Hopefully this list has given you some inspiration. However, I still think you will need some flowers and a card for the day.
